cEDH PT was born as a movement in 2019, when Commander in Portugal was strictly casual. The goal of cEDH PT was to break the stigma that the format couldn't be played at the highest competitive level.
The Beginning (2019): The Seed
It all started with small groups of players in Lisbon and the surrounding area (with a strong influence from Kakah).
At the time, cEDH was a niche within Magic. The initial goal was to create a community on Discord and WhatsApp to centralize discussions of strategy and "power level," combating the stigma of Competitive Commander.
Professionalization (2020 - 2022)
During the pandemic, cEDH PT focused on online events, but it was upon returning to in-person events that they made the leap:
The Pirate Chest: Became one of the benchmark tournaments, offering high-value prizes (such as Reserved List cards) instead of just store credit or boosters, and attracting international players from its first edition who became"regulars" every year.
Adoption of Proxies: They were pioneers in Portugal in standardizing the use of playtestcards (proxies) in large-scale tournaments. This allowed the format to grow without the financial barrier of decks costing over €5,000.
European Expansion (2023 - 2024)
The organization ceased to be merely local and became an international player:
European cEDH League (ECL): They joined with European partners to create a circuit with a unified ranking in collaboration with Dragon Shield and Commander Arena.
cEDH PTNationals: They began organizing the Portuguese "National," an annual event that crowns the best player of the season based on a points system accumulated throughout the year.•
5 Years of cEDHPT: In 2025, they celebrated their fifth anniversary with a massive event that consolidated their position as one of the biggest forces and drivers of the format.
The Launch ofthe cEDH European Championship (Lisbon, 2024)
Lisbon as European Capital: 1st Edition of the cEDH European Championship 2024. This event was the official launch of a unified European circuit.
The Event: Held in November 2024 in Lisbon, the European Championship finals were the culmination of a circuit involving organizers from several countries (Germany, United Kingdom, Spain, amongothers).
Impact: It brought together 277 players from around the world, being considered one of the largest and most important cEDH event held in Europe.
Legacy: This event established the Invitational Events model, which is now repeated annually, rotating the final venue among different European capitals (e.g., Munich in 2025 and the United Kingdom in2026).
The Milestone:The Power 9 Quest (#P9Q)
The organization's success lies in its consistency and transparency.
Unlike other organizers who appear and disappear, cEDH PT has maintained a fixed calendar of qualifiers and events
P9Q is the culmination of this journey.
it's proof that cEDH has reached a level of prestige where historic Magic cards (Power Nine) are the rightful trophy for the best players. It's not just a tournament; it's a cEDH "festival" with professional coverage, L2/L3judges, and logistics comparable to old GPs, with guaranteed prizes that make players invest confidently in the event, knowing exactly what to expect.
Today, cEDH PT is synonymous with competitive excellence in Europe. They have managed to unite stores, attract international sponsors, and put Portugal on the map as the must-visit destination for any cEDH player seeking the highest level of play.
